My Rimon
The name SUZANI originated from the Persian word "needle" and refers to embroidered fabrics, which can be used as wall-hangings or as covers. Central Asia along the Silk Route - Uzbekistan (Bukhara) and Tajikistan - has been the birth place of these textiles.
The tribewomen, mainly young girls embroidered the SUZANIs as part of their dowry.
In a society where women are valued only as wives and housekeepers, embroideries bring not only recognition for a woman's skill and industry, but also the pleasure of personal expression and individual creativity. This way of living is vanishing. Genuine antique SUZANIs are very rare .
The SUZANI on sale is of a more recent date and was incorporated into a bedspread. The border around the SUZANI is made of 100% flax giving the bedspread a Scandinavien look.
