Artifacts from Africa
The cushion front are made of Shoowa raffia fabric - hand woven and embroidered textiles from Zaire. Shoowa textiles originated in Zaire and Angola in the 16th century. The Shoowa pieces were mostly used for barter between the tribes. The artisans used almost without exception bold earthy colours. The symbols figures and colours have historically been a great source of inspiration to artists and continue to be very popular in contemporary interiors.
